There are a lot of weird moments as a parent. One being the very first moment when you realize you are in charge of this little human and every need it has! But let's fast forward a bit to when you start saying the things your parents used to say. Now, that's a sad day when those words come out of your mouth -- especially the one about playing your music too loud, "You're going to hurt your ears!" Yup, I said it. It felt just wrong as soon as it came out of my mouth. I could go on, but I want to focus on a different weird moment -- the day our oldest kid started high school.
Now she is in her third year and it's strange to think we will have a senior next year! It has also been pretty cool since both my husband and I were Norman High Tigers. Our daughter, Alexis plays high school sports and we love supporting the teams and watching them compete. The past couple of months have been really great because the NHS volleyball team (which Alexis is a part of) has accomplished many great things. They made it to the finals in every tournament they participated in, and took first twice! They had their best season in years, winning regionals and returning to the state tournament for the first time in 13 years. Only eight teams make it to state and NHS was one of them.
We played a very tough Jenks team and lost in the quarterfinals, but had such a blast being there watching them compete. We thoroughly enjoyed the NHS student section and their incredible support and energy. We had by far, the largest, loudest and most entertaining students. They rode buses over two hours away and cheered up until the very last moment. Afterwards, they sang the school fight song and applauded the NHS volleyball team.
There wasn't anything about watching their energy and enthusiasm (granted they were missing a day of school -- you're welcome from the team), it was just really cool seeing it and watching your kid being a part of it. Great season Tigers and fans!
